I arrived at my apartment in Rome on May 12th and was greeted by my six roommates which would become my closet friends while studying abroad. I still keep in touch with them, and we were even able to hang out as a group even though we live in different areas and go to different universities.
The classes were very interesting, and I loved how they incorporated Roman culture into the courses.
I was able to explore every aspect of my home city and even experience some once-in-a-lifetime events like going to the new Pope's first mass. During the weekends, my roommates and I were able to travel to amazing and beautiful places such as the Amalfi Coast, Lake Como, Florence, Venice, Pompeii, and Capri. The landscapes and scenery of these places were like nothing that I have ever seen or experienced before. The program offered a couple excursions that were included in the cost of the program and paid for our trips to Florence and Pompeii.
The food in Italy was excellent, and I even learned how to cook a couple dishes like Tagliatele alla bolognese which I ended up making a great deal because of how good it tasted.
Overall, this was a very exciting program, and I learned and experienced a great deal of Italian culture and places.
