Health and Safety Overview

JCMU considers the health and safety of students to be the bedrock of a successful study abroad experience, and as such, it is one of our top priorities. While no organization or institution can guarantee the safety of participants, the risks can be significantly reduced when students are well informed, and prepared. The web pages in this section of the website are meant as a guide for a safe and successful study abroad experience.

In addition to reviewing the health and safety information on the JCMU website, travelers should also:

• Visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Travelers' Health website and review information for travelers going to Japan. This includes information regarding vaccines and medicines, health and safety guidelines, healthy travel packing list, travel notices, and tips for after your trip.
• Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a free service to allow U.S. citizens traveling abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. International students should check if their local embassy/consulate offers a similar service and should take steps to enroll.
• Review international travel information and resources on the USA Study Abroad website and the U.S. Passports and International Travel website (or similar sites from your home country). These websites offer resources such as the Traveler's Checklist, country specific information, and much more.
• Review information on the Michigan State University (MSU) Office for Global Health, Safety, and Security website.
