Eligibility

JCMU strives to make its programming as accessible as possible to students regardless of their field of study, home institution, or Japanese language abilities.

Most JCMU programs do not require any previous study of Japanese language in order to be eligible for consideration. In rare instances where previous study of Japanese language is required, it will be noted on the program brochure and application.

The minimum eligibility requirements* for most JCMU programs (unless otherwise noted) are:

  • a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
  • completion of at least two semesters of college-level enrollment (at 1 or more institutions)

*Students who do not currently meet these requirements at the time of application are welcome to apply if they anticipate meeting the requirement before the program's start date. Please contact the JCMU East Lansing Office if you have questions or concerns about JCMU eligibility requirements.

Note: Students attending a JCMU partner institution must also meet the study abroad eligibility requirements at their school.
