In order to manage emergency situations quickly and efficiently, JCMU staff and faculty adhere to Michigan State University’s (MSU) emergency response guidelines. MSU is the administrative agent of JCMU and considers the wellbeing of students its highest priority.
Students seeking emergency assistance may contact the JCMU office in Hikone during regular business hours, which are 8:30 am – 5:30 pm (JST), or the 24 hour "Duty Phone" after regular business hours. JCMU staff will provide assistance to the student(s) as appropriate to the situation and notify MSU of the situation.
JCMU student(s) are encouraged to contact family members at home to inform them of any emergency situation they have encountered. JCMU does not initiate contact with a student's family without obtaining permission from the student except in the event of a serious emergency or injury where students are unable to do so themselves.
In the case of an emergency in a student's home county, or if there is concern for the wellbeing of a student in Japan, please contact the JCMU program office in East Lansing (or if unavailable, the MSU 24/7 International Emergency Assistance Line). JCMU staff in East Lansing can provide assistance contacting students studying in Japan.
