  • Location(s): Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Japan
  • Housing: JCMU Residence Hall
  • Eligibility: Min. GPA of 2.5 (cumulative); Completion of at least two semesters of college-level undergraduate enrollment before participation (see Eligibility page for more details)
  • Prerequisites: None - Open to all majors; No Japanese language study required

Program Description

  • (3 credits) Business Communications in Japan Keystone Course: Students will experience firsthand the Japanese culture and business practices and see how various organizations operating in traditional and modern spaces do business in a fast-paced and changing environment. Students will have the opportunity to learn about communication processes, create dialogue, build interpersonal relationships, communicate in groups and teams, and speak to public audiences, including those aspects unique to Japanese culture. Broadly, the course aims to enhance students’ understanding of other cultures and their appreciation of cultural diversity for various communication applications.
  • (3 credits) Japanese Culture & Society Course: This course will present you with the opportunity to further explore the foundations of Japanese culture and society and how they shape the lives of the Japanese people. Classroom lectures will be enhanced with site visits, and Japanese cultural demonstrations and activities.
